Green Creation (STEM) Education Day

The “Green Creation for Future (STEM)” education day was held at the Education University of Hong Kong on 28 June 2019. “Green Creation” means both environmental protection and creativity. A total of 21 schools organized students to participate in the activities. More than 1,900 people attended the event.A number of different activities were held on the “Green Creation for Future (STEM)” education day.

Activities

·      Green Creative Street Market

A total of 18 of participating primary schools, 4 organizations and 3 companies set up booths and held market activities. They provided abundant green games, demonstration and experience of green teaching activities, small DIY workshops, sales of green handcrafts, etc. 

·      Repair Cafe 

The event invited a number of professional maintenance masters to set up a "repair café " to provide maintenance services, including umbrella repair, watch repair, shoe repair and toy repair. 

·      Green creative robot café 

With the theme of "Marine environmental protection", the student helpers of EdUHK set up a series of robot games for participants to experience the creation of robots doing environmental protection in an interactive and interesting way. There are Pepper robots telling stories to children and having creative environmental quiz with them, interactive games with the robot Nao and many different robots involved in environmental activities. 

·      Green Creative Upcycling

A green umbrella is a symbol of the “Green Creation for Future (STEM)” education day. With umbrellas as the theme, a series of environmental creative workshops were organized and held throughout the day to enable over 1,000 participants to participate in the production of upcycling umbrella.

·      Wish making for the Earth 

Three wishing trees and two wishing boards were placed in the central plaza of the Education University of Hong Kong. People who wants to make a wish has to make small parachutes parachute, and then use the air cannon to send the parachute to the sky and fly to the wishing tree.

·      Green Creative Talks

The event invited a number of distinguished guests, including Mr. Mok Ho-Kwong, a green living expert known as "the wild man", Mr. Chung Yin-Chai, Joel, a vintage collector, and Mr. Ho Ka-Fung, who is familiar with local creative education toys, to give talks on creative green living.

·      Green Creative Teaching Sharing Competitions 

Teachers from 19 primary schools were invited to share their teaching experiences with each other. During the activity, teachers learned about each other's creative environmental teaching activities. They shared their experiences and achievements and promoted creative environmental education to more schools.

·      Project Sharing and Award Ceremony 

Dr. Cheng Mo Yin Vivian, together with Dr. Cheang Chi Chiu and Mr. Chan Ping Man, shared with all visitors and guests with the activities and achievements of the QEF project “Developing and promoting Creative Environmental Practices for/in primary school education”. It is hoped that creative environmental teaching activities will be more widely implemented in schools throughout Hong Kong.
