EdUHK President meets Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan

President Professor John Lee Chi-Kin, and Associate Vice-President (Internationalisation) Professor Lo Sing-kai, representing The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK), met with Mr Sayasat Nurbek, Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan, in Almaty recently. The purpose of the meeting was to explore possible collaboration between EdUHK and the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan. 

 

During the meeting, Mr Nurbek recognised EdUHK’s contribution and its international reputation  in the field of education. He emphasised the importance of establishing international cooperation as a means to promote innovation and provide additional learning opportunities for students. Professor Lee pointed out that EdUHK aims to be a strategic partner in higher education with Kazakhstan, to promote the international development of both pre-service and in-service teachers in the country through a range of collaborative initiatives.

 

During his stay, Professor Lee visited two prestigious normal universities in Kazakhstan, namely Abai Kazakh National Pedagogical University and Kazakh National Women's Teacher Training University. There, he explored and discussed potential partnership opportunities, which include serving as a platform to enhance the professional capacity of teachers in higher education and promoting educational research in Kazakhstan. In addition, EdUHK and the Kazakh National Women’s Teacher Training University have signed a memorandum of understanding, paving the way for meaningful academic and cultural exchange, as well as establishing a partnership for future research and projects.

 

In this fruitful visit, Professor Lee was invited to be an honorable guest and speaker at the EdCrunch 2023 conference, where he actively participated in panel discussions, and engaged in insightful exchanges with experts from various academic institutions. The discussions revolved around the pivotal role of universities in the context of rapidly developing artificial intelligence technologies.
