EdUHK Holds International Postgraduate Roundtable and Research Forum cum Summer School

The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) hosted the International Postgraduate Roundtable and Research Forum cum Summer School (IPRRFSS) in Education, Social Sciences, Liberal Arts and Humanities from 9 to 12 July 2024. The Forum was attended by over 300 postgraduate students, alumni and scholars from 19 countries and regions.

 

The theme of the forum was ‘Innovations and Sustainability: Shaping Education and Global Futures’. EdUHK President Professor John Lee Chi-Kin said “By fostering interdisciplinary dialogue and innovative thinking, the Forum explores solutions to global challenges while shaping a more sustainable and brighter future for all.”

 

Professor Chetwyn Chan Che-hin, Vice President (Research and Development) said, “Safeguarding sustainability is a crucial response to today’s sociocultural and technological developments and environmental changes. Assuming everyone here shares this belief, I trust that you will find the keynote speeches and the ensuing discussions both empowering and inspiring.”

 

Twelve keynote speakers shared their topics related to Education, Language and Literature, Linguistics, Psychology, AI and Machine Learning, and Neuroscience. They are:

  • Professor Suresh Canagarajah, Evan Pugh University Professor, Departments of Applied Linguistics, English, and Asian Studies, Pennsylvania State University, USA
  • Professor Kui Xie, the Red Cedar Distinguished Professor and Chairperson of the Department of Counseling, Educational Psychology, and Special Education, Michigan State University, USA
  • Dr Eva Codó, Associate Professor, Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, Spain
  • Professor Stephen May, Professor in the School of Māori and Indigenous Education, University of Auckland, New Zealand
  • Professor Rodney Jones, Professor in the Department of English Language and Applied Linguistics, University of Reading, UK
  • Professor Mark Levine, Professor in the Department of Psychology, Lancaster University, UK.  
  • Professor Chetwyn Chan, Vice President (Research and Development), EdUHK
  • Professor Chiu Ming Ming, Director of Analytics\Assessment Research Center, EdUHK
  • Professor Looi Chee Kit, Research Chair Professor of Learning Sciences, EdUHK
  • Professor Angel Lin, Chair Professor of Language, Literacy and Social Semiotics in Education, EdUHK
  • Professor Xu Guandong, Director of the University Research Facility of Data Science and Artificial Intelligence and Director of the Centre for Learning, Teaching and Technology, EdUHK
  • Professor Michelle Gu, Dean of Graduate School, EdUHK

The conference included a roundtable session, student presentations and sharing sessions by EdUHK students. The Forum awarded 16 outstanding full paper awards to postgraduate students to recognise the excellence of the selected papers and promote high-quality research in their fields. 

 

The forum cultivated an environment that encouraged postgraduate students to collaborate, transcending disciplinary and geographical boundaries, to present their research and to engage with individuals from diverse cultures and communities. It also served as a platform for sharing and discussing research in education, social sciences, liberal arts and the humanities.
