Innovation for Change – EdUHK Award Winning Innovations Salon
In its dedication to advancing knowledge frontiers, The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) is committed to sharing the output of its multi-disciplinary innovative research projects for the betterment of society. In 2018, the University shined at numerous international invention exhibitions, winning 11 awards. To showcase these achievements, the Knowledge Transfer Sub-office of Research and Development Office (KT Sub-Office) held the “EdUHK Award Winning Innovations Salon” today (3 Jan), in the hope of inspiring more scholars to focus on research projects whose focus is applicability.
Among the attendees were Professor Lui Tai-lok, Vice President (Research and Development), and Ms Annie Choi Suk-han, Commissioner of Innovation and Technology of the HKSAR. Eight winning entries were showcased in the event, all awardees at The International Exhibition of Inventions of Geneva 2018, The International Invention Innovation Competition in Canada 2018, or The iENA - International Trade Fair "Ideas-Inventions-New Products" in Germany 2018. The innovations cover a wide spectrum of applications, including educational technology, special education, environmental sustainability, interactive media, music, and even new material technology. The “Interactive Chinese Characters as a New Learning Method” project, devised by Dr Hung Keung, in the Department of Cultural and Creative Arts, was the only award-winning project developed solely by a local university in the iENA exhibition.
Professor Lui said, “This international recognition of EdUHK projects is a result of the dedication and hard work of our colleagues, as well as the support and contribution from difference sectors of the community. EdUHK will continue to forge collaboration between the Government, industry, academia and the research sector to use new knowledge and technology in innovative applications, so that we can contribute to the advancement of education and beyond.”
Dr Stephen Chow Cheuk-fai, Director of Knowledge Transfer, echoed Professor Liu’s view, adding “The KT Sub-Office will continue to proactively pitch our research to our collaboration partners. In parallel, the Education and Social Entrepreneurs Funding Scheme was launched earlier to foster the establishment of start-ups by students, alumni and researchers. By cultivating creation, innovation and entrepreneurship, we intend to develop new approaches to transferring knowledge to social applications.”
