EdUHK Wins ‘Inclusion & Diversity Award - Education Sector’ from Dialogue in the Dark (Hong Kong) Foundation
The Centre for Religious and Spiritual Education (CRSE) at the Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) won the ‘Inclusion & Diversity Award - Education Sector’, in recognition of its outstanding contribution to promoting empathy and social inclusion during the I&D Appreciation Awards 2025 Presentation Ceremony. The ceremony was organised by the Dialogue in the Dark (Hong Kong) Foundation at the Hong Kong Ocean Park Marriott Hotel on 20 February. Professor John Lee Chi-Kin, the President of EdUHK and Director of CRSE, attended the award ceremony together with Dr Jiang Da, Co-Director, and Mr Cheung Yong-pong, Professional Consultant of CRSE.
Professor Lee said that it was an honour for EdUHK to receive the award and expressed gratitude to the Lee Hysan Foundation and the Dialogue in the Dark (Hong Kong) Foundation for their collaboration and support. He added that EdUHK would stay committed to promoting empathy, encouraging teachers and students to understand others' feelings, thereby establishing an inclusive and harmonious campus environment while also advancing teachers' professional development and social inclusion.
With the collaboration and support of the Lee Hysan Foundation, CRSE has implemented the ‘Caring, Appreciation, Respect and Empathy Scheme’ (EdUHK CARES) since 2022. This initiative aligns with the guidelines of the Education Bureau, promoting care, appreciation, respect, and empathy among in-service teachers, pre-service teachers and primary school students.
The programme encompasses both the theory and practice of empathy, including a series of lectures, training courses and activities, such as internships for EdUHK students at partner primary schools. All participants, including in-service teachers, pre-service teachers and primary school students, engage in immersive activities at the Dialogue in the Dark Jockey Club Dialogue Experience Place to understand the life experiences of visually and hearing impaired people, applying empathy in their daily lives to foster social inclusion. To enhance the programme's impact, the empathy courses have been incorporated into the elective curriculum of general education, aiming to benefit more EdUHK students continuously.
