These developments are artificial intelligence (AI) education, curriculum reforms for the new academic year, as well as new directions for bachelor's and master's programmes. The management team also addressed several topics raised by reporters.
In addressing those attending the reception, Professor Lee first reviewed the important work of EdUHK over the past year, and reiterated that the core mission of the University was to cultivate future teachers and professionals who were talented and virtuous, understand the nation, and possess an international perspective. He stated that the University would focus on ‘Education Futures Diverse Talents’ as its direction for development, equipping students to meet ever-changing social demands. Additionally, the University will continue to expand its connections locally, in Mainland China, and internationally, contributing to the development of Hong Kong as an international education hub and to help establish of the ‘Study in Hong Kong’ brand.
Professor Lee said that, in the face of macroeconomic challenges, the government's reduction in funding would undoubtedly have an impact on EdUHK. However, the University will stand together with Hong Kong society through thick and thin, and work hand-in-hand with the HKSAR government to weather the difficulties. He said the University would make good use of its financial reserves and introduce new technologies to enhance administrative efficiency, ensuring the smooth implementation of all plans.
At the reception, a highlight video was shown, featuring interviews with 14 EdUHK experts and scholars to showcase the University's exploration and progress in applying AI. The scholars' insights and research outcomes demonstrated EdUHK's strong emphasis on the development and application of the technology. It illustrated how AI tools and platforms empower teaching and learning experiences, as well as EdUHK's leading position and pioneering role in the technology’s integration with education.
In addition, the undergraduate curriculum will undergo significant reform in the 2025/26 academic year. All 13 existing five-year Bachelor of Education programmes will be revamped to become Double Degree programmes. Furthermore, EdUHK will introduce three new undergraduate programmes: BA in Digital Chinese Culture and Communication, BSc in Speech Pathology and Rehabilitation, and BA in Personal Finance.
To align with technological advancements and industry changes, EdUHK will launch nine new taught master's programmes starting from the 2025/26 academic year.
