EdUHK Receives Visit from Umm Al-Qura University, Saudi Arabia: Fostering Educational Collaboration with Belt and Road Countries

The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) recently hosted a delegation from Umm Al-Qura University (UQU), based in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The universities engaged in in-depth discussions regarding collaboration in areas such as Arabic teaching, special education, STEM education, and artificial intelligence. The partnership aimed to further strengthen collaboration to contribute to the advancement of the Belt and Road initiative and the establishment of an educational community among participating countries. 

 

Professor John Lee Chi-Kin, EdUHK President; Professor May Cheng May-hung, Vice President (Academic); Professor Lo Sing-kai, Associate Vice President (Internationalisation); and Mr Donny Siu Koon-Ming, Director of Global Affairs, extended a warm welcome to the delegation. 

 

Professor Wardah Abdullah Al-Asmari, Vice President for Business Development and Community Partnership of UQU led the delegation. The other members were Dr Muhammad Al-Waqdani, Head of the Curriculum and Instruction Department (College of Education); Dr Suhad Sonbul, Supervisor of the Local and International Partnership Unit; and Dr Wesam Sabbagh, Vice Dean of the College of Design.

 

During the meeting, both parties recognised the significant role Saudi Arabia plays in the Belt and Road initiative, aligning closely with EdUHK's vision in fostering global partnerships, educational development and knowledge exchange. They also reiterated their strong desire to establish a partnership between the two institutions in academia and research.

 

The delegation then met with EdUHK faculty members to further explore specific areas of collaboration such as Arabic teaching, special education, STEM education, and the application of artificial intelligence in education.
