EdUHK Ranked 12th in QS World University Rankings by Subject 2025

The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) is pleased to announce that in the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2025, EdUHK ranked 12th in the world in Education, 4th in Asia and 2nd in Hong Kong. The results are encouraging and once again prove the University’s professional standing in education is recognised internationally.

Compared with last year, the University’s ranking in the subject of education has improved by eight places, and its ranking in Asia is one place higher. Additionally, EdUHK has four other subjects ranked in the top 350 in the world: psychology, linguistics, sociology, and English language and literature.

The 2025 edition of the QS World University Rankings by Subject compares the performance of university programmes in more than 5,200 institutions in 148 locations around the world, covering 55 narrow subjects and five broad subject areas. Five key metrics are used to compile the QS subject rankings, including Academic Reputation, Employer Reputation, Citations per Paper, H-index (an index that attempts to measure both the productivity and impact of the published work of a scientist or scholar), and International Research Network (IRN).

EdUHK has made significant advancements in research-related indicators, particularly in Citations per Paper and H-index scores, which have contributed to its improved rankings. These achievements underline EdUHK’s steadfast commitment to producing high-quality research and reflect its growing influence in the global academic community.

EdUHK President Professor John Lee Chi-Kin is delighted with the University's excellent results. “EdUHK has achieved a significant rise in the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2025. This is both recognition of our past efforts and inspiration to continue improving our educational standards. We will consistently provide students with the highest quality education, uphold our ‘Education Futures’ approach and contribute to the global education sector,” he said.

The University has achieved other outstanding results. In the QS Asia University Rankings 2025, EdUHK made its debut at 212th out of 984 universities. This places the University among the top 25% of institutions in Asia. Furthermore, EdUHK has been rated as a “5-star institution” in the latest QS Stars rating system, which emphasises EdUHK’s international recognition in teaching, research, facilities and other areas.

Furthermore, the recently released Audit Report on the University by the Quality Assurance Council under the University Grants Committee, found that EdUHK upholds rigorous academic standards and enhances quality in learning and teaching, and identified five features of good practice.
