EdUHK National Day Flag-Raising Ceremony

In celebration of the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) held a National Flag-Raising Ceremony this morning (1 October) on its Tai Po campus.


The flag-raising ceremony brought together the senior management, staff and students of the University.


The ceremony was also attended by several distinguished guests, including EdUHK Council Deputy Chairman Professor Terence Chan Ho-wah,  Treasurer Ms Imma Ling Kit-sum, Council members, President Professor John Lee Chi-Kin, Director-General Counsellor Wang Jian of the Department of International Organizations and Conferences of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the HKSAR (OCMFA), Tai Po District Council member Mr Wu Cheuk-him and Ms Queenie Wong Sze-man, Senior Liaison Officer of the Home Affairs Department, Tai Po District Office. The flag-raising ceremony was performed by teams of students from the University, the EdUHK Jockey Club Primary School and the Early Childhood Learning Centre.


During the national anthem, the national flag was raised slowly and fluttered in the wind. Guests and teachers and students stood solemnly, singing the national anthem in unison, facing the national flag, offering their respects, wishing the motherland prosperity and strength, and wishing HKSAR prosperity and stability.


Professor Terence Chan said, “National Day is a joyous occasion for the whole country. I am very happy to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the founding of the nation together with the teachers and students of EdUHK, sharing our love and pride for it. EdUHK will continue to nurture individuals with both talent and virtue, contributing to HKSAR, the country and the world.” 


Ms Imma Ling said, “Patriotism knows no age. The flag-raising ceremony on National Day is an indispensable part of civic education, aiming to enhance the national qualities and patriotism of EdUHK students, helping them understand the close connection between the country and Hong Kong.”


Professor John Lee Chi-Kin said, “Holding a solemn flag-raising ceremony on National Day to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the founding of the nation helps cultivate patriotism among young people, strengthen their sense of belonging and national identity, and deepen emotional ties with the motherland. EdUHK will continue to cultivate high-level talent for the nation, leveraging HKSAR's unique advantages and charm of being backed by the motherland while connecting with the world.”


EdUHK conducts flag-raising ceremonies every Monday and on important dates, including New Year’s Day, National Security Education Day, HKSAR Establishment Day, National Day and the school commencement day.
