EdUHK Holds "The Brilliant Moment: Achieving Our Core Values" Lecture Series Sharing Session

To Cultivate students' positive values and attitudes and to assist them in facing various challenges in their future learning and work. The Centre for Religious and Spirituality Education of the Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK CRSE), yesterday (21 October) held a ‘The Brilliant Moment: Achieving Our Core Values’ Lecture Series Talk at EdUHK North Point Study Centre Lecture Hall.

From the autumn of 2023 until the summer of 2024, the Our Hong Kong Foundation, the Chinese Culture Research Institute, EdUHK CRSE, Joint Publishing Group, and the Commercial Press organised eight lectures in the ‘The Brilliant Moment: Achieving Our Core Values’ series. These lectures have also been compiled into a book, available for sale. In order to provide a comprehensive understanding of the stories presented in the above series of lectures to more educators, students, and members of the public, a special talk and book launch event has been organised by EdUHK’s CRSE.

The talk was jointly hosted by EdUHK President Professor John Lee Chi-Kin and Dr Lee Ching-yee, President of the Our Hong Kong Foundation. The distinguished panel of guests, Mr Shum Yat-fei, Dr Philip Chen Nan-lok, Professor Chan Ching-chuen, The Most Revd Andrew Chan, Dr Michael Fung and Venerable Sik Yin-hung (listed in order of the number of strokes in their Chinese names) were engaged in dialogue. The event attracted a large audience including university and secondary school students, principals of primary and secondary schools, teachers, and members of the public, with every seat in the venue filled.

Professor Lee, also Director of CRSE, said, “Values education involves contemplating and practising self-transcendence, reflecting on progress, achieving self-development and fostering mutual growth with others and the environment, and contributing to the country and society.”

The guests provided profound and diverse insights, sharing their deep understanding of the twelve priority values and attitudes: ‘Perseverance’, ‘Respect for Others’, ‘Responsibility’, ‘National Identity’, ‘Commitment’, ‘Integrity’, ‘Benevolence’, ‘Law-abidingness’, ‘Empathy’, ‘Diligence’, ‘Unity’, and ‘Filial Piety’. They emphasised the connection between achievement and core values, and highlighted the practical application of these values in everyday behaviour and decision-making, particularly when facing difficulties and challenges. Their experiences and wisdom greatly benefitted the audience, inspiring deeper reflection on core values and personal achievements.
