EdUHK Holds Flag-Raising Ceremony to Celebrate the 10th National Security Education Day

The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) organised a flag-raising ceremony this morning (April 15) at the Tai Po campus to commemorate the 10th National Security Education Day. In alignment with this year’s national theme “The 10th anniversary of National Security Education Day: advancing towards more in-depth and effective implementation”, the ceremony reinforced national security awareness and civic responsibility among faculty and students. The event followed a series of national security education activities conducted in collaboration with various district organisations.

Guests attending the ceremony included EdUHK Deputy Council Chairman Professor Terence Chan Ho-wah, President Professor John Lee Chi-Kin, and senior university management, faculty and student representatives, Chairperson of Northcote College of Education Past Students’ Association Dr and Mrs Dennis Koo, as well as Chairperson of the HKIEd TCSEN Alumni Association Dr George Leung. Also present were the Senior Liaison Officer in the Tai Po District Office of the Home Affairs Department Ms Queenie Wong, Tai Po District Council members Ms Jeanne Lee Sai-yin, Mr Wu Cheuk-him, and Mr Wong Wai-tung, as well as principals from several primary and secondary schools in the Tai Po district.

The ceremony commenced with the EdUHK student flag-raising team marching in with the national flag, regional flag and university flag. The attendees stood in solemn observance and respect as the flags were raised to the stirring melody of the national anthem.

Professor Terence Chan Ho-wah said that EdUHK this year has organised a series of diverse activities to commemorate the 10th National Security Education Day. Today’s solemn flag-raising ceremony has created a profound atmosphere of safeguarding national security. “Our youth, our future. We will continue to cultivate them with national security education, encouraging them to shoulder the responsibility of safeguarding the nation”, he added.

Professor John Lee Chi-Kin stated that national security is the cornerstone of Hong Kong’s prosperity and stability. He said, “EdUHK continuously strengthens its promotion and education on national security, encouraging everyone to actively engage with national development, as to correctly understand national laws and regulations, comply with the Basic Law, and practise awareness of national security in daily life. In the future, we will continue to deepen our collaboration with the HKSAR and different district organisations to extensively promote national security education and patriotism education among students, faculty, and the community.”

In the lead-up to the 10th National Security Education Day, EdUHK partnered with various district organisations across Hong Kong to host a series of events to promote national and patriotic education in Eastern District, Yau Tsim Mong District, and Tai Po District. The aim of the initiatives was to unite the education sector and the community in promoting national security education and nurturing a patriotic, talented and virtuous younger generation.

EdUHK remains dedicated to fostering a strong sense of national identity and security among its students and the wider community, contributing to a prosperous and stable future for Hong Kong.
