The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) held a flag-raising ceremony on its Tai Po campus this morning (1 January). The ceremony brought together the University’s management, faculty, teachers and students.

The Flag-Raising Team, comprising students from the University hoisted the national, regional and university flags. All guests, teachers, and students faced the national flag and stood solemnly while singing the anthem in unison.

Professor Terence Chan Ho-wah stated that New Year’s Day marks the beginning of a new year, in which EdUHK will continue to shoulder the mission of creating future pillars, cultivating talents with global perspectives and innovative abilities, and leading young people to understand the development of the nation and the world, thus making contribution in society, adding, “2025 is the final year of the country’s ‘14th Five-Year Plan’. I hope we will contribute more to invigorating the nation through science and education.”

Professor John Lee Chi-Kin stated that the solemn Flag-Raising Ceremony not only marked the beginning of the new year, but also deepened the emotional connection between teachers, students, and the country. He emphasised the importance of cultivating a sense of belonging to the country, adding, “In the coming year, EdUHK will continue to uphold the values of ‘Education Futures, Diverse Talents’ and focus on promoting the diversified development of the education, technology, and talents, while further enhancing internationalisation to cultivate a multicultural campus.”

EdUHK conducts flag-raising ceremonies every Monday and on important dates, including New Year’s Day, National Security Education Day, HKSAR Establishment Day, National Day, and the start of the academic year. This reflects EdUHK’s commitment to promoting patriotic education and fostering community integration.
