Professor Leung Chi-hung Receives HK$6M+ Project Funding

Professor Leung Chi-hung at the Department of Special Education & Counselling, The Education University of Hong Kong, has been awarded HK$5.82 million from the Quality Education Fund (QEF) and a donation of HK$540,000 from the Tin Ka Ping Foundation for two of his projects.

The QEF is supporting Professor Leung’s project to develop a platform for assessing pre-service teachers. The project will utilise AI technology to evaluate the teaching and classroom management of new teachers on the Field Experience programme. The platform will provide users with performance scores, evaluate their overall performance, and offer recommendation for improvement.

The donation will help fund psychological therapy training in Sichuan, including narrative drawing intervention courses and school crisis management training. So far, the project has already helped improve the mental health of more than 150 primary and secondary school students affected by an earthquake in the region.

“I am honoured to receive recognition for these projects. They are close to my heart because they innovate ways to build teacher capacity, care for the wellbeing of young people, and ultimately support the sustainability of education,” said Professor Leung.
