EdUHK Hosts Government Career Fair to Help Students Explore Government Job Opportunities
The Student Affairs Office of The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) and the Civil Service Bureau co-hosted the first-ever Government Career Fair on EdUHK’s Tai Po campus recently. The event attracted over 350 participants, and assisted students aspiring to become civil servants in exploring job opportunities and to deepen their understanding of working in government.
Representatives from 16 government departments introduced more than 40 job positions at recruitment booths, including the Civil Service Bureau, the Education Bureau, the Digital Policy Office, and Hong Kong Customs and Excise Department. The fair also featured a series of activities, including booths, experiential programmes, student support stations, seminars, mock interviews, and written tests. These provided students with a gain deeper insight into the roles and responsibilities of various government departments, the application process, and selection criteria, helping them explore different career paths for their future.
Moreover, the Home Affairs Department, the Civil Service Bureau, and the Hong Kong Police Force hosted recruitment seminars both in-person and online. During these seminars, EdUHK graduates shared their diverse experiences in government careers, providing students with further understanding of the relevant positions. The Hong Kong Fire Services Department also organised activities for students to experience physical tests and try on operational uniforms. The Hong Kong Police Force demonstrated bomb disposal robots and equipment, and conducted assessments related to the Basic Law and the Hong Kong National Security Law, as well as Chinese and English writing tests. The career event also included talks by graduates who have joined the government, sharing with current students their tips for applications and experiences.
The event was officiated by Professor Bill Yeung Chi-ho, Dean of Students at EdUHK. He said that many young people aspired to the jobs in government, and that some students had participated in government internships and pursued government careers after graduation. He encouraged students to actively participate in the exhibition so they may seize future opportunities to join the government, and therefore unleash their potential and fulfill their aspirations while serving the citizens of Hong Kong in the future.
EdUHK has long been committed to nurturing thoughtful, socially conscious educators and leaders with a global perspective. The University looks forward to more collaborative opportunities with the government to help students soar in their career development and contribute to the future of the nation and Hong Kong.
