EdUHK Holds HK Marathon Running Team Kick-off Ceremony Promoting a Vibrant Sports Culture on Campus

The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) held its first-ever Hong Kong marathon running team kick-off and flag presentation ceremony on 16 January on its Tai Po campus, to cheer on participating representatives, faculties, alumni and students.

The Hong Kong Marathon is one of the city’s major annual sporting events. This year, for the first time, EdUHK held a kick-off and flag presentation ceremony and will also have a booth at the venue to support the University’s runners.

Officiating at the kick-off and flag presentation ceremony were EdUHK President Professor John Lee Chi-Kin, Vice President (Administration) Dr Tom Fong Wing-ho, Department of Health and Physical Education Senior Lecturer Dr Lobo Louie Hung-tak and EdUHK team representatives, faculty, alumni and students.

Addressing the ceremony, Professor Lee said, “As an Elite Athlete Friendly University, EdUHK not only supports student-athletes in pursuing their dreams but also promotes a vibrant sports culture with positive values. We encourage students to actively engage in sports while balancing their academic commitments. Through today’s event, we hope to see an increasing number of faculty, staff and students at EdUHK embracing and enjoying sports.”

Dr Fong, a long-time runner, said, “The marathon is a test of endurance, requiring participants to demonstrate physical resilience and unwavering determination. Through this event, we hope to demonstrate EdUHK's spirit of unity.”

Dr Louie reminded the participating teachers and students to always pay attention to their physical condition and not to push themselves too hard during the race, so as to avoid injuries, stressing the importance of recovery strategies.

At the ceremony, Dr Fong also announced that the second Caring for Life and Wellness Carnival would be held next month on 14 February in his capacity as Chairman of the Caring for Life and Wellness 2025 Project Committee. He hopes the University's faculty and staff can show care for their colleagues, friends, as well as pets through various activities. The inauguration ceremony for the marathon team is also part of this event.
