EdUHK Co-organises Greater Bay Area Career Planning Development Conference Promotes Career Planning Education for Greater Bay Area
On 10 December 2024, The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) co-hosted the “Hong Kong Students Greater Bay Area Career Planning Development Conference.” The event provided a platform for teachers to exchange ideas, enhance their knowledge, and support integrating Hong Kong's education sector into the Greater Bay Area, promoting lifelong learning and talent development.
The conference was hosted by the Hong Kong Shine Tak Foundation, co-organised by the EdUHK, New Territories School Heads Association, Kowloon Region School Heads Association, Hong Kong Island School Heads Association, and the Committee on Home-School Co-operation. It featured two keynote speeches by Professor John Lee Chi-kin, President of EdUHK, and Mr Gordon Lam Chi-wing, Deputy to the 14th National People's Congress from Hong Kong. Two guest speakers then had a dialogue with Mr Henry Tong Sau-chai, Executive Vice Chairperson of Hong Kong Shine Tak Foundation, hosted by Hon Tang Fei, a member of the Hong Kong Legislative Council.
Professor Lee stated, “EdUHK has consistently supported the development of career planning curriculum. Through values education, students can identify their interests and goals and gain an understanding of the opportunities and challenges in the Greater Bay Area through the dimensions of ‘knowledge,’ ‘affection,’ and ‘implementation.’ This initiative aims to assist Hong Kong students in pursuing further education and employment opportunities in the Greater Bay Area, thereby contributing to national development.” He encouraged students to embrace the abundant opportunities in the Greater Bay Area, experience work and life, balance idealism with reality, and create their own career paths.Mr Lam shared his personal career planning story over the past three decades and encouraged young people to study hard, broaden their horizons, and pay attention to the development of Mainland China, especially Guangdong Province and the Greater Bay Area. During the dialogue, guest speakers agreed that broadening perspectives is vital for young people's career planning. The Hong Kong Shine Tak Foundation supports youth development through various activities. Chairlady Mrs Christy Tung highlighted that Hong Kong's youth, with their innovative spirit and international outlook, can significantly contribute to the Greater Bay Area's growth.
The forum was based on the “Hong Kong Students’ Greater Bay Area Career Planning Education Development Survey” conducted in October this year. This survey, funded by the Hong Kong Shine Tak Foundation and conducted by EdUHK, along with Centre for Religious and Spirituality Education (CRSE) and the EdUHK School Partnership and Field Experience Office (SPFEO), aimed to understand the career development needs of Hong Kong students in the Greater Bay Area. The survey, led by CRSE Executive Co-Director and Associate Director of SPFE Ms Mandy and CRSE Co-Director Professor Chen Junjun, collected over 5,600 secondary student responses and nearly 300 teacher responses.
