Professor Wang completed his BA and MA in English Language and Literature at Central South University, China, and earned his PhD in Applied Linguistics from the University of Birmingham, UK. Before his current role at The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK), where he joined in 2003, he served at the Open University of Hong Kong.


He is Associate Dean (International Engagement) of the Faculty of Humanities, Acting Head of the Department of Linguistics and Modern Language Studies, Associate Director of the Global Research Institute for Finnish Education, Associate Co-Director of the Global Institute for Emerging Technologies, and Chair of the Committee on Language Policy at EdUHK. His past roles include Associate Dean (Quality Assurance and Enhancement), Programme Leader for the BEd (English Language) programme and the BA (Language Studies) & BEd (English Language) double degree programme, Chair of the Departmental Learning and Teaching Committee, and English Immersion programme Coordinator.
 
Professor Wang specialises in corpus linguistics, computer-assisted language learning, and multilingual education. He has developed a 3-million-word English-Chinese parallel corpus and co-created the Asian Corpus of English with Prof Andy Kirkpatrick. His work has been published extensively in prestigious journals, including System, Language Learning and Technology, Computer-Assisted Language Learning, and the International Journal of Bilingual Education and Bilingualism. He is the author of Introduction to Language Studies (Pearson, 2011) and co-author of Academic Writing in Language and Education Programmes (Pearson, 2011), Trilingual Education in Hong Kong Primary Schools (Springer, 2019), Identity, Motivation, and Multilingual Education in Asian Contexts (Bloomsbury, 2020), and Is English an Asian Language? (Cambridge University Press, 2021). He is editor-in-chief of the Springer book series Multilingual Education.

 

Professor Wang has won various awards, including the 2023 Award for Excellent FE Supervision, 2020 Esperanto ‘Access to Language Education’ Award, the Silver Award at the International Exhibition of Inventions Geneva 2019, the Faculty Teaching Award (2017/18), President’s Award for Outstanding Performance in Teaching (2013/14), Scholarship of Teaching Award (2010/11), and Best Paper Award (2003, 2019, 2024). He actively contributes to education management as a School Manager at the EdUHK Jockey Club Primary School and the Spanish School of Hong Kong.
