The Department of Special Education and Counselling and Project Aspire at The Education University of Hong Kong are excited to jointly hold the ‘Supporting Students with Autism Spectrum Disorder in Mainstream Schools: A Longitudinal Perspective Across Different School Stages’ ASD Symposium on 2 April 2025, coinciding with World Autism Awareness Day. This symposium aims to enhance awareness and understanding of autism while providing valuable insights for educators and organisations to deliver the most appropriate support for autistic students through cross-sector collaboration.
The symposium will feature Professor Dawn Adams from Griffith University, who will deliver a keynote address focused on strategies to reduce anxiety in autistic students and improve their school attendance. Additionally, esteemed local speakers will share their practical experiences and insights regarding the current needs of autistic students across various educational stages.
We will also present findings from a needs assessment research study targeting autistic students, their caregivers in Hong Kong. This research aims to identify the specific needs of autistic students and offer actionable insights for educators and organisations to better address these needs.
