Designing Innovative Language Learning Environments in the AI Era’ for the English Language Centre (ELC) at the University of Macau

On December 3, 2024, Dr. Ju Seong Lee led a workshop on ‘Designing Innovative Language Learning Environments in the AI Era’ for the English Language Centre (ELC) at the University of Macau.

During this engaging session, ELC colleagues learned how today’s digital-native learners engage with English in digital settings. They explored creative ways to design language learning activities and environments using AI and the Metaverse, through interdisciplinary and international collaboration, to prepare learners for the AI era.

Dr. Lee introduced the ‘care-innovation-sustainability’ model, emphasizing empathy, localized innovation, community building, and the scale-up process. The theme of ‘Care, Innovation, Sustainability in ELT’ also aligns with the AsiaTEFL 2025 International Conference, and ELE is committed to embodying this theme and making a positive impact on individuals and society.
