Speaker's Biography

Dr. Cheung is an Associate Professor in the Department of Early Childhood Education at The Education University of Hong Kong. He also serves as the Co-director of the Centre for Child and Family Science and the Associate Dean (Quality Assurance and Enhancement) of the Faculty of Education Development. His research primarily focuses on children’s math development and the home learning environment. Dr. Cheung has authored numerous papers presented at international conferences and published in esteemed journals. With his extensive experience, he is frequently invited by the Education Bureau, publishing companies, school sponsoring bodies, and schools to conduct teacher training and parent talks.

Parents play a pivotal role in early academic socialization. In this presentation, Dr. Cheung will delve into his recent findings on how parents’ beliefs, expectations, attitudes, and behaviours are associated with young children’s early math attitudes and competence. He will also discuss the implications for early childhood educators, providing strategies to support parents in fostering their children’s math learning at home. This presentation aims to bridge the gap between home and school environments, highlighting the importance of parental involvement in early math education.
