About SCG3028 Creativity Development through Robotics
Robotics is an interdisciplinary study of science, technology and engineering that deals with the design, construction, operation, and use of robots, all of which involve human creativity and problem solving. Robots are machines that can substitute for humans, in different situations (e.g. in dangerous/extreme environments) and for different purposes (e.g. domestic or commercial purposes). Many robots resemble humans or animals in appearance and functions, and are invented through bionics and biomimetic (i.e. inspired by nature). Furthermore, robotics is widely used in STEM education as a teaching/learning aid, fostering creativity and problem solving abilities of school students. This course targets at developing the creativity of participants through studies in robotics, and, at the same time, equipping them the competence in designing, conducting and assessing STEM learning in robotic activities. Apart from historical and case studies of robots, this course will provide amble opportunities for participants to have hands-on operations and problem solving with real robots, and also to design and invent simple robots with low-cost mechanical, electrical and electronic construction kits. Scientific experiments and demonstrations are also conducted for understanding the various scientific knowledges behind robotics. Talks on/ visits to robot competitions and/or other robot-related sites will also be arranged. Activity 1 - DIY Robotic Hand
