Extract

In the age of not talking about character any more, Proverbs in the Old Testament clearly stated that all those who seek wisdom can receive instruction of doing what is right, just and fair. The speaker quoted three excerpts, indicating that Proverbs did not instill rigid value in character formation. There were not much direct persuasion in the Scripture, especially in Chapter 10 to 29. On the contrary, Proverbs vividly described various daily situations and invited readers to think about the value of different choices behind them, and thus make smart decision.

Ears of people today are dull. The strategy of Proverbs was to induce people to ask questions and discern. Readers are free to search and fill up the blanks before making choices. We are what we love. Proverbs did not often clarify right or wrong, but cultivated us to deeper desire for wisdom and love to acquire. The author of Proverbs was like a father who trained and  prepared his son by imaginative trainings. When temptations and traps appear, we can take precautions.
