The speaker first pointed out that from the arrangement of 2 Samuel Chapter 11, the focus of the biblical record on David was not in adultery and murder. It was on David's wrong use of power to do evil. He deliberately used every means to cover his sin. Contrast in 2 Samuel Chapter 24, David had a good chance to kill Saul, but he blamed himself and did not dare to offend the Lord. This time David became another person, similar to the later Saul - hypocrite, seen as evil in the eyes of God. (See 2 Sam. 11:27b; 1 Sam. 15:19)

Why was David going to be like this? The speaker pointed out three possibilities from the analysis of the scriptures and the life of David by several scholars and pastors: (1) David abused his power—There were seven times in 2 Samuel Chapter 11 that David took the initiative to "send" people to accomplish his plan; (2) David's greed—Seeing the providence from the Lord as insufficient, despising God's command and doing evil (see 2 Sam. 12:8). David had a track record to take others’ possession as a collector; (3) David forgot the Lord that everything of him came from the Lord (see 2 Sam. 12:7-8).

Finally, the speaker explored the role of the Army General Joab in this case. Was he informed? Obedient or self-protection? What is the role of the "victim" Bathsheba? Did she have a choice facing this evil? David surely chose to do evil, letting himself fall into temptation and covered up the transgression. We need to learn from it.
