The Shack is a 2017 film, based on the 2007 novel of the same name by William P. Young. The Shack was “true” as it came from the experience of the author, who was sexually abused from a very young age but recovered through a long healing process. Many of us have the feeling of being abandoned by God when we suffer. Rev. Wong responded by the following: (1) It is the agony resulted from a seemingly unreachable distance between God and man make us most unbearable. (Psalm 22:1, 6) (2) We do not find God leading us because He as a shepherd, for most of the time stays at the back of a herd in order to guide those who went astray. (Psalm 23:1) (3) We judge good and bad using our own yardstick but God responds to evil by His goodness and always cares. (4) We can face the tension between “Heaven” and “Our Shack” by the courage and promise from the God who loves us. |
