Music performance anxiety (MPA) is a prevalent and debilitating issue for musicians and music students, affecting performance quality, confidence, and well-being. This lesson examines MPA’s characteristics, provides a developmental model, and discusses treatment approaches, including the Alexander Technique - a somatic practice that promotes tension release, anxiety reduction, and postural improvement. By introducing mindfulness and body awareness, students will explore how to integrate the Technique into their daily music practice, leading to enhanced overall music performance.
