Thematic Courses on Supporting Students with SEN
1) Thematic Course on Supporting Students with Specific Learning Difficulties (Facilitating Chinese Language Learning) (EDB Course Code: SE0020250006) (72 hours, 12 days)
The course aims at enhancing teachers’ competency in teaching students with Specific Learning Difficulties (SpLD) so as to facilitate their Chinese Language learning. Participants will learn about the cognitive processes involved in language learning for both general students and those with reading and writing difficulties. They will also master how to optimize language teaching and support strategies for students with lower language abilities. This includes a three-tiered intervention model, adaptations to curriculum and examinations, and effective ways to address the social and emotional needs of students with specific learning difficulties.
2) Thematic Course on Supporting Students with Specific Learning Difficulties (Facilitating English Language Learning) (EDB Course Code: SE0020250005) (72 hours, 12 days)
The course aims at enhancing teachers’ competency in teaching students with Specific Learning Difficulties (SpLD) so as to facilitate their English Language learning. Emphasis will be put on both theoretical and practical aspects such as designing and conducting intervention plans and developing corresponding learning materials. Participants will also review the methods of evaluating the learning of students with SpLD and how the acquired educational strategies and skills will benefit these students as well as others. On completion of the course, participants will be able to apply the necessary knowledge and skills in catering for the students with SpLD.
3) Thematic Course on Supporting Academically Low Achievers, including Students with Intellectual Disabilities (EDB Course Code: SE0020250011) (60 hours, 10 days)
The course aims at enhancing teachers’ competency in teaching academically low achievers (including those with intellectual disabilities). Emphasis will be put on both theory and practice, helping participants identify the learning characteristics of these students and learn about effective support strategies that will benefit both these students and their peers. On completion of the course, participants will be better equipped to apply the acquired knowledge and skills to address the learning needs of academically low achievers.
