Primary science learning of Hong Kong through the lens of TIMSS

The International Association for the Evaluation of Educational Achievement has conducted a series of international mathematics and science study in the past 30 years including the First International Science Study (FISS) in 1970-1971, the Second International Science Study (SISS) in 1983-1984, the Third International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS 1995) in 1995, Third International Mathematics and Science Study–Repeat (TIMSS–R) in 1999, and the Trends in Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS 2003) in 2003. This article summarizes the findings from various studies that the Primary four pupils in Hong Kong have participated, which include SISS 1983-1984, TIMSS 1995, and, TIMSS 2003. It provides an overview of their science performance over the past twenty years.
