Programme:
Testimonial
from Jacqueline Stein
Alia Secondary College
Melbourne Victoria
I have fifteen years
teaching experience in secondary schools; Government and private; traditional
and alternative; small and large scale; and in three different countries:
Australia, UK, and Spain
My current school is Alia College where I project manage an innovative government initiative on Values Education based on LVEP. Alia College is a small, private alternative school focusing on academic achievement. The students are aged between 12-18.
LVEP is different because it works! I experienced changes in the relationships between students and teachers within 6 weeks. Students who were extremely resistant in the beginning were making suggestions as to how to improve the classroom atmosphere and even suggesting mediations that they had used at home. Students were getting insights into how they really felt about things separating raw emotion from feeling and then were given the tools to deal with issues. The 14-18 age group particularly appreciated conflict-resolution techniques.
From a personal perspective
the biggest breakthrough was in ME! I was more enthused in the classroom,
more loving and a much better teacher!
Comments
from children who have been learning Living Values in classrooms:
"Children showed
less aggression in class and in the playground. Children were very motivated
in class and concentrated more on their work."
Lina Nehme, Brummana High School - Brummana, Lebanon Ages 4-5
"With LVEP they
(children) changed so quickly that you can notice which value worked well.
Parents also notice the difference in schools dealing with LVE. There is no
fighting at school. Teacher-pupil relationship is good. Polite language at
school. Parent-teacher relationship is good. Children miss being at school
all the time for there is love, peace, freedom and unity."
Catherine Kanyi, Skeats Junior School - Nairobi, Kenya Ages 3-7
"LVE provides a
unique opportunity for children and adults to understand themselves and each
other; creating harmony and reverence."
Christel Joseph, Kid-eo Pre-Primary - Pietermaritzburg, South Africa Ages
3-6
"They are well-behaved
and very courteous. They are able to re-correct themselves whenever they make
a mistake. They are aware of good manners and restrain from hurting others.
They are responsible students and don't need the teacher's guidance all the
time. They are very loving and sharing."
Mary Njuguna, Shah Lalji Nangpar Academy - Nairobi, Kenya Ages 5-6
"There are many
changes which appeared on some children via the using the living values program
which has a great effect on the following characters: self-confidence, honesty
and respect toward adults."
Marium Labib, Saint Mary Society - Cairo, Egypt Ages 5-11
"One of the children
used to always hit the other in the face. I noticed that after sometime, their
behaviors changed and they started loving each other and respecting their
peers and also respecting their elders. I also noticed more honesty and they
want to always come to school."
Girmin Francis Wahba, Jesuit & Frere Society in El-Menia - El Menia, Egypt
Ages 3-4
"The changes were most evident on the playground and in group settings.
The discussions were less biased towards one or another. The kids showed more
respect and tolerance of differences and started viewing them as unique traits."
Nathalie Nassar, A.C.S. - Beirut, Lebanon Ages 6-7
"The children have become more attentive. They can accommodate one another.
They have become more respectful to their peers."
Raphael Ngigi, Hospital Hill School - Nairobi, Kenya Ages 6-7
"One boy could not do anything in class because he feared the others
who were doing better -- but the moment the class started practicing 'unity'
and the other children worked together through unity the boy gained courage,
believed in himself. Now he is doing very well academically and socially and
also in speech. Thank you for the value."
Milka/Esther, Kings School Nairobi - Nairobi, Kenya Ages 5-6
" "Students responded positively and enjoyed practicing the values.
Values became sort of foundation or based to their behaviour."
Karma Samara, Brummana High School - Brummana, Lebanon Ages 9-10
