Awardee of the President’s Commendation in Innovation, Science and Technology in 2022/23
Different from my peers who have dived deep in a particular area since childhood and garnered awards with their expertise, I have never gone through any formal training in innovation and technology and regarded myself as a newbie in such field.
In my formative years, I held on to the thought that innovation and technology was the turf of scientists only. Despite being a science student in secondary school, I never imagined developing a close connection to this field. However, upon entering EdUHK with aspirations of becoming a teacher, I realised that the responsibilities of educators are not confined to classroom and academic performance. Therefore, I started everything from scratch and, after five months of intense effort, founded a labour education company. I integrated some Chinese cultural elements in the curriculum, such as "The Analects of Confucius", differentiating my curriculum from the traditional labour education.
Inspired during volunteer services, I also invented a mobile automatic page-turning podium, for which I successfully applied for a national patent. These experiences propelled me with the support and determination to become a qualified teacher. I am grateful to EdUHK for providing various workshops, lectures, and other learning opportunities that enabled me to broaden my horizons and embrace the spirit of trying.
Finally, what I wish to share is not just my experiences in technology and innovation, but my enthusiasm and courage to explore the unknown.
The Education University of Hong Kong considers it vital to encourage students’ active engagement in co-curricular activities so as to build value systems and personalities, broaden horizons and absorb knowledge from alternative and non-traditional sources. The President’s Commendation Scheme (PCS) was introduced in 2010/11 as a University-level recognition of students’ non-academic achievements. For more information, please visit here.
