Joyce Chin Yuet-shan has greatly benefited from studying for a Bachelor of Social Sciences in Sociology and Community Studies. Formal coursework has established a strong foundation for examining social and community issues from various perspectives.

Her capstone project exemplified applying theory to impactful practice. At a primary school in Queen’s Hill, Joyce led a community-based experiential learning programme for students. Running this initiative with classmates under teacher guidance offered hands-on experience in developing project management, problem-solving, and collaboration expertise.

Additionally, an internship with an educational NGO fuelled Joyce’s aspiration to become a primary school English teacher. She appreciated opportunities to visit schools to observe exemplary teaching and classroom leadership in action.

Overall, Joyce is thankful for the well-rounded and enriching sociology training. She feels well-prepared to contribute to society’s future through a career in education.
