Regarding the recent spike in phone deception cases, we are very concerned about our students falling victim to scam calls, and would like to alert you of this matter and urge you to pay heed.
In recent years, the prevalent modus operandi of telephone deception is "Pretend Officials". Scammers usually play recordings to impersonate the government or other public and private agencies. They may also impersonate local or mainland law enforcement personnel, using forged documents and claiming that the victim is involved in criminal cases in Mainland China. The victim is demanded to make money transfers, pay “guarantee money”, and disclose personal information. There are also job-related phone scams claiming to offer job opportunities to target unsuspecting individuals.
We would like to remind all the students to remain vigilant and verify the identity of a caller through different channels when receiving suspicious phone calls/messages, and should NOT disclose any personal information and transfer money to others arbitrarily.
In case you encounter any suspicious deception cases, please do not hesitate to contact the Anti-Deception Coordination Centre at 18222. The helpline is equipped to provide assistance and share updates on the latest modus operandi of deception and scam alerts, enabling you to respond effectively to topical scams.
