Dr Henry Ho, Assistant Professor at the Department of Psychology, is aiming to boost family-friendly workplaces in Hong Kong after winning funding from the Equal Opportunities Commission under the Funding Programme of Research Projects on Equal Opportunities 2020/21.
Dr Ho will investigate at the benefits of Family-Friendly Employment Policies and Practices (FEPPs) and their availability and utilization in different industries.
"In Hong Kong, employees with family responsibilities often suffer considerable stress and experience work–family conflict because of long working hours, high job demands, and poor work-life balance," said Dr Ho. “By identifying the key barriers experienced by employers in implementing FEPPs and the factors that influence employees’ uptake of family support, I hope to discover workable policies that will encourage companies to provide FEPPs and promote equal opportunities in the workplace.”
The Funding Programme of Research Projects on Equal Opportunities aims to boost innovative research that promotes equality of opportunities irrespective of sex, disability, family status and race.
