Seminar: Parental Leaves from Mothers' and Fathers' Perspectives

2018-06-22

The PS Department was honored to welcome Professor Bettina Wiese from RWTH Aachen University to deliver a research seminar entitled “Parental Leaves from Mothers’ and Fathers’ Perspective” on 22 June 2018.

The talk first summarized findings from two multi-wave longitudinal studies with data collected in Germany and Switzerland focusing on the antecedents of mothers’ leave length decisions (e.g., gender-role attitudes) and predictors of successful re-entry into working life (e.g., self-management strategies). Then, findings on fathers’ leave planning and leave experiences (e.g., on career-related worries, while being on leave) was presented.  Finally, results from the dyadic modelling of leave-related decision making within couples were presented.

The seminar was very interactive and a meaningful discussion was raised at the end of the talk.
