| Objectives |
- To study and explain whether and how the current education policies on school governance in Hong Kong support the development of participatory citizenship;
- To explore how the key personnel and school leaders involved in school governance perceive citizenship, participatory school governance and their role in nurturing participatory citizens;
- To study how the students understand citizenship and school civic missions and how they recognize the impact of participatory school governance on their development as participatory citizens.

| Summary of Findings |
- Reveal the picture of students’ participation in school governance in Hong Kong
- Identify the facilitating and hindering factors affecting students’ participation in school governance.
- Identify the relationship between students’ participation in school governance and students’ citizenship development
- To explore the differences of the ideologies of citizenship and civic education among students, teachers and school leaders.

| Biography of Principal Investigator |
| Dr. Leung Yan Wing (±ç®¦ºa ) is an associate professor of The Department of Education Policy and Leadership, the co-director of the Centre for Governance and Citizenship, and the coordinator of the Education Policy Forum of the Institute. Dr. Leung got his PhD in national education from the University of Sydney. Currently he researches and teaches mainly on civic education, human rights education, national education, values education, civic missions of schools, political socialization, students’ participation, civil society and educational policies. Dr. Leung has published widely in international, regional and local journals, presented papers in many international and local conferences. He has been involved in many internally and externally funded projects and consultative work with schools. Dr. Leung has led projects preparing teaching packages for schools. He also engages actively in public policies debates in local media. In addition, Dr. Leung participates actively in civil society both locally and internationally. He is the coordinator of the Hong Kong Alliance for Civic Education, an executive member of the CIVITAS International and a founder of the Asian Network of Human Rights Education. |
