In line with University’s Education-plus approach, the Department of Mathematics and Information Technology (MIT) will launch a new undergraduate programme in 2022/23, covering artificial intelligence (AI) and educational technology (EdTech). This programme, BScAIET, is designed to address the challenges of the educational transformation driven by the fourth industrial revolution and meet the societal needs for qualified professionals in AI and educational technology to support the future development of schools, tertiary education, government and corporate sectors. It aims to nurture future talent for the technology sectors and professions beyond education.
One of the key features of this programme involves experiential learning. Apart from major courses and general education courses that enhance students’ connection of theories to their practices using authentic examples. Also, the internship provides students with practical experiences and contexts to integrate and apply their knowledge and skills of AI and EdTech in the workplace. These opportunities will be made available for students to gain first-hand practical experience to prepare for their future careers.
This programme prepares graduates to be capable of taking up AI-related and education-related technical and support positions in schools, publishing, community and social services, government and non-government organizations.
In addition, a new arrangement will be made for senior-year entrants, who normally have a shorter study period, to take an elective offered on the master’s degree programmes, so they can enrich their learning experience and attain personal goals after graduation.
