Prof Gert Schubring Seminar
On 5 December 2024, the MIT Department and the MA(MP) Programme Team were honoured to invite Professor Gert Schubring, a retired member of Bielefeld University and a visiting professor for the history of mathematics at the Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro (Brazil). Prof Schubring is the awardee of the 2019 Hans Freudenthal Award in recognition of his outstanding contribution to research on the history of mathematics education.
Professor Schubring provided a fabulous seminar featuring the Universalism of Mathematics and its local origins and practices versus colonialism approaches. We are delighted to have Professor Siu Man Keung, Honorary University Fellow of Hong Kong University, academic staff of the MIT Department of EdUHK and our MA(MP) students participants in this seminar.
Participants received a memorable session on the history and the development of Mathematics from a historical view and shared the joy of the seminar with Professor Schubring.
