Set in green surroundings with spacious courtyards, the Hong Kong
Institute of Education Jockey Club Primary School has been awarded
the Hong Kong Institute of Architects Medal of the Year in the category
of Community Buildings.
Built with a generous donation from the Hong Kong
Jockey Club Charity Fund, the School is located inside the Institute's
Tai Po campus. It was conceived as a "model school" where
innovative curricular, teaching and learning methods could be put
into practice. In line with the student-oriented philosophy of the
School, the architects, Aedas LPT and Design Consultants, succeed
in integrating the natural environment with the learning and teaching
needs of the pupils. The school buildings adopt a courtyard composition
and follow the existing topography by means of a series of roof
terraces, stepping gardens and an outdoor amphitheatre. Trees on
the adjacent central garden have been preserved to create a green
backdrop.
