The campus had a festive air for two days at the
end of last year when the biennial HKIEd Open Day was held for the
third time.
The event was a showcase of accumulated strengths,
new developments and valuable staff and student assets. Over 180
activities were presented by staff and students from all units of
the Institute and alumni associations. They ranged from exhibitions,
seminars and workshops to demonstrations, performances and open
house events. They brought joyful moments and won loud applause
from 17,000-plus visitors - a record high compared with the previous
two Open Days.
The Central Plaza of the Institute was a gathering
point for visitors and the scene of vivid and rousing performances
including a lion dance, numerous dance displays, debates, story-telling,
songs and a gala parade by students and parents of the HKIEd HSBC
Early Childhood Learning Centre.

Visitors were attracted by irresistible fragrances
wafting from a drinks counter located in one corner of the Central
Plaza. Here they were served by the President, Vice-Presidents and
School Deans selling tea and coffee to raise funds for student activities,
in particular for visits to or exchange projects with the Mainland.
The overflowing donation box showed the level of support visitors
gave to the event.
This jubilant event was kick-started at an opening
ceremony graced by the presence of Dr Alice Lam, Chairman of the
University Grants Committee, Mr Simon Ip, HKIEd Council Chairman,
and Professor Paul Morris, HKIEd President.
