The K.P. Tin Foundation, set up by Dr Tin Ka-ping, has recently
made a three-million-dollar donation to the Institute to support
the establishment of a Development Fund. To commemorate Dr Tin's
enduring contribution to the Institute and its students, a 300-seat
lecture theatre was named after him at a donation ceremony held
on 20 January 2003.

Officiating at the ceremony were representatives of
the K.P. Tin Foundation including Dr Tin Ka-ping himself and his
sons Jackson and Dennis Tin and Mr Fong Tak-chiu. Also in attendance
were distinguished guests Mr Gary Cheung Kam-wah, Division Chief
of the Education, Science and Technology Department, Liaison Office
of the Central People's Government in the HKSAR, Mr Anthony Wu Ting-yuk,
Chairman of the Fund-Raising Committee of HKIEd, and Professor Paul
Morris, our President.
At the ceremony, Professor Morris told an interesting
story about Dr Tin's charity endeavour. In order to raise more funds
to support the development of over 20 secondary schools, Dr Tin
sold his spacious mansion in Kowloon Tong and moved into a smaller
apartment. "His actions in support of education make Dr Tin
a role model for our students. And his commitment to nurturing future
teachers will long be remembered and appreciated by all members
of the Institute," Professor Morris remarked.
