Cultivating Global Citizens: An Inspiring Study Tour to Harvard University and Boston

2025-06-12

We are thrilled to share the success of our study tour, "Cultivating Global Citizens: Two Weeks Study Trip to Harvard University," which took place from 25 May to 6 June 2025. Led by Dr. Lin Cong Jason and Ms. Vanessa Lok, this experience provided students with a unique opportunity to engage with academic excellence, cultural exploration, and global citizenship in the vibrant city of Boston.

The tour centered around Harvard University, where students participated in interactive lectures, discussions, and campus visits, deepening their understanding of education, ethics, language, and civic engagement. Key academic highlights included:

  • A thought-provoking talk by Dr. Tatiana Geron (Harvard Graduate School of Education) on "Educational Ethics: Dilemmas and Opportunities," which debated ethical case studies.
  • An engaging session with Ms. Maya Alkateb-Chami (Doctoral student at Harvard Graduate School of Education) exploring language’s role in shaping identity and communication.
  • A lecture by Mr. Nicolas Riveros Medelius (Doctoral student at Harvard Graduate School of Education) on "Political Socialization and Civic Education," offering insights into citizenship and identity formation.

Students found these lectures inspirational, sparking new perspectives on global education and societal responsibility. Beyond Harvard, the group visited other prestigious institutions, including the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Tufts University, Boston University, and Northeastern University, allowing them to compare academic environments and envision their roles in a globally connected world.

Boston’s rich history and culture came alive through visits to Harvard’s Museums, the Museum of Science, and the Museum of Fine Arts. Students also enjoyed iconic Boston experiences, such as:

  • Walking the historic Freedom Trail
  • Kayaking along the Charles River
  • A fun-filled Boston Duck Tour and Boston Skyline Signature Lunch on a Boat
  • Visiting the New England Aquarium
  • Relaxing at Revere Beach

Through this journey, students gained firsthand exposure to American academic culture, global ethical discussions, and diverse perspectives on education and society. The trip not only broadened their intellectual horizons but also strengthened their ability to engage as informed, culturally aware global citizens.
