Dear John,
Thank you very much for your letter of April 19, 1999 (Ref: ies/affiliat/crud_199).
I am very happy to hear a piece of good news about the acceptance of the Asia-Pacific EPR/ESR Society as an Affiliate Society of the International EPR/ESR Society. This brings us closer towards fulfilling the International EPR/ESR Society (IES) Mission, i.e. uniting all EPR/ESR researchers. International recognition of the Asia-Pacific EPR/ESR Society by IES, which is a respected and mature international professional body, is a great honour to all EPR/ESR researchers from the Asia-Pacific region.
We are building on the success of the 1st Asia-Pacific EPR/ESR Symposium (APS¡¦97) held at City University in Jan 1997, to which you and Prof. James Norris, President of IES, contributed in various ways. The Asia-Pacific EPR/ESR Society was inaugurated during APS¡¦97 due to your encouragement and guidance. Thank you for your continuing support in building a strong regional society uniting Asia-Pacific researchers from several fields, including, archaeology, biology, biophysics, chemistry, environmental sciences, geology, life sciences, materials science, medical sciences, physics, and optoelectronics.
Concerning the joint collection of subscriptions, may I suggest to discuss the matter at the next Council and/or General Meeting to be held in Hangzhou during APES¡¦99. At this stage, I envisage that rather no separate subscriptions will be collected by APE Society.
We will put information on affiliation of the Asia-Pacific EPR/ESR Society by the International EPR/ESR Society on our WWW home-page at:
