Dr Lucas Kohnke, EdD Programme Coordinator and Senior Lecturer from the Department of English Language Education, delivered an online workshop on Effective Presentation Skills for Academic Posters on February 7th.

Hong Kong’s famous city glow surrounding its iconic harbour hides much brighter light with millions of years of history. In a star gazing workshop exploring the night sky, eager students and staff from the Graduate School (GS) learned about the constellations visible to the naked eye from EdUHK’s Tai Po campus by Associate Professor Dr Chan Man Ho. 

Professor Cliff Lee is a professor of Art + Design & Education at Northeastern University in Oakland, California. He delivered a comprehensive overview of his research conducted from the Oakland campus of Northeastern University. Originally from Hong Kong, Professor Lee reflected on his immigrant experience while exploring the relationship between education and Black, Indigenous, and people of colour (BIPOC) youth in the United States.

EdUHK master’s students travelled to five different locations for the 2024 Overseas Learning Experience Programme (OLEP). The intensive credit-bearing courses are hosted by world-class universities in Canada, Finland, Japan, Norway and Australia. Participants praised the additional courses that complement the MEd programme at EdUHK.

The Graduate School (GS) organized a Christmas handicraft workshop for doctoral students on December 18, 2024. Participants built their own Christmas decorations while enjoying seasonal snacks and casual conversation. 

The question of whether entrepreneurs are born or made was the central theme of a GS seminar presented by Mr Kelvin Ivanković from Western Norway University of Applied Sciences (HVL) on December 17, 2024. Mr Ivanković used findings from a dynamic exchange programme between Norway and South Africa to explain that entrepreneurial mindsets can be cultivated through educational practices.

The image of Chinese doctoral supervisors in Western academia was the focus of Dr Cora Lingling Xu’s research seminar on December 16, 2024. She is an Associate Professor in the School of Education at Durham University, UK. Underpinned by analysis of comments on the Chinese language knowledge-sharing platform, zhihu.com, Dr Xu discussed her recently published article that found Chinese supervisors as being ambitious and supportive, sneaky and exploitative, and colonised.
