This course provides students with a learning opportunity to develop a systemic-developmental understanding of some common mental health needs and Special Educational Needs (SEN) of children and adolescents in Hong Kong. The clinical symptomatology, course and prognosis, familial patterns as well as the developmental challenges faced by the children and adolescents will be introduced in the course. Students will also be equipped with evidence-based effective strategies and techniques to work with children and adolescents in need. Selected counselling approaches, such as play-based intervention, family-centered intervention, emotion-focused therapy (EFT), and narrative therapy will be introduced.
