This course develops students’ knowledge and skills for conducting Learning Study in schools on a data-driven basis. Students will learn how to use these results for curriculum development by empowering learning and teaching with effective pedagogical design. Learning Study may be characterized as collaborative action research into classroom teaching with an aim to improve student learning and develop school-based curriculum. It features teachers’ collaboration in planning, teaching and reviewing lessons and utilizes Ference Marton’s Variation Theory of Learning as its framework. The course will comprise a series of lectures and tutorials that set the theoretical framework for conducting Learning Study, and will enable student-teachers to improve their lesson preparation and teaching skills through Learning Study for curriculum advancement.
