Module Synopsis
單元概要
This Co-curricular and Service Learning Course (CSLC) involves collaborations between EdUHK and universities/schools/mental health care providers in the Greater Bay Area (GBA). The course will equip students with a broader view of mental health, which involves biological, psychological, and sociocultural influences. Students will also acquire practical mental health promotion skills through the “Psychological First-Aid (PFA) Certificate Course”*, which was developed by the National Center for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) (USA) and the National Child Traumatic Stress Network (USA). In addition, through communicating with the partner institutions and the individuals (e.g., staff, students) that are identified through these institutions in the GBA, students will deepen their understanding of the importance of sociocultural factors in mental health and the needs of people in the GBA. Students will also learn to provide mental health promotion services that fit the needs of the general public in the GBA by applying knowledge acquired in the lectures and the PFA Certificate Course. The direct service experience will foster a harmonious and inclusive society while giving students a stronger sense of belonging to the country. Moreover, given the rapid development and strong emphasis on enhancing the support of students’ mental health and well-being in the GBA and other parts of the mainland China (Cui et al., 2020; Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China, 2021; The State Council of The People’s Republic of China, 2023; Wang et al., 2020; Xu et al., 2022), students will learn to recognize the national strength in mental health. *The PFA Certificate will be awarded upon 100% attendance of the PFA Certificate Course.
