INFORMAL LEARNING OF DIGITAL NATIVES |
Module Synopsis 單元概要 |
Increasing numbers of adolescents, or digital natives are learning various skills and knowledge in English outside of the classroom with the help of technology. This rapidly emerging phenomenon of informal learning, or self-directed learning activities in out-of-school digital contexts, is motivated by personal interests and undertaken independently without being assessed by a teacher. However, informal learning also amplifies challenges on digital natives’ self-regulation, social relationship, moral development, emotional wellbeing, and the ethical use of the resources on the Internet. This course aims to equip students with a comprehensive understanding of the psychological characteristics of adolescence that both facilitate their informal learning and render them vulnerable in the digital contexts. Informed with such knowledge, students will design, track, evaluate, and reflect on their own informal learning experience with an ethical consideration of digital citizenship. The ultimate goal is to strive for digital sustainability in students’ informal learning. |
