Module Code 單元編號 ECE6211 Module Title 單元名稱 TEACHING OF CHINESE LANGUAGE FOR NON-CHINESE SPEAKING CHILDREN 非華語幼兒的中國語文教學 Module Synopsis 單元概要 This course is designed to equip in-service kindergarten teachers with the knowledge and skills needed to teach Chinese language for Non-Chinese speaking (NCS) children. It gives emphasis to enhancing participants’ sociocultural awareness on the linguistic and cultural diversity in Hong Kong early childhood settings. This course has a practical orientation, in which the participants will discuss and share their actual teaching practices used in different kindergartens as a kind of professional knowledge exchange. The participants will also be fostered to examine, and learn to appreciate, the strengths and difficulties of NCS children in learning spoken and written Chinese. Theories of learning and teaching Chinese language and culturally responsive theories will be discussed to inform the practice of teaching Chinese language for NCS children. This course will also focus on building the capacity of the participants in developing and implementing school-based curriculum.
