One component focuses on what teachers are expected to know and do, by examining reform policy and standards in teaching and synthesizing the shared principles of teaching implied in these documents; analyzing the assumptions about knowledge, learning and teaching underlying these principles; and identifying the resultant content of learning to teach when professional principles are followed. The second component explores the concept and scope of teacher professionalism and development in teaching, its underpinning philosophy and complexity. The course provides opportunities for participants to reflect on their own professional development, multiple roles in various early childhood settings, and commitment to the field and the community at large.
