ENGLISH IN THE EARLY YEARS: CHILD-CENTRED PEDAGOGIES |
Module Synopsis 單元概要 |
The enthusiasm for English learning rushing into early years teaching is worldwide and obviously identifiable in Hong Kong. Research evidence supports a child-centred pedagogy with the use of play-based activities for meaningful interaction with print under the support of professional competent teachers. This course aims at preparing students for the teaching of English by equipping them with a comprehensive understanding of how young children learn English and a critical evaluation of the situational factors that favour or constraints children learning English in the early years settings in Hong Kong. Guided by research-based principles of early English learning, students apply theories to practice in selecting and adopting age appropriate pedagogies to promote children’s learning of English for the local settings. Through the experiential mode of learning activities in the course, students develop their confidence and language capacity to design and conduct English activities with very young children. |
