The course provides students with a preliminary understanding of early childhood education to enable them to support teaching and learning in Hong Kong. Through the study of the cultural and linguistic background of non-Chinese speaking children as well as the historical background, policies, present situation and current trends of early childhood education in a socially and culturally diverse context, students will develop a better understanding of the multicultural classroom settings and the responsibilities required from a teaching assistant for supporting culturally responsive teaching.
